The lighthouse

The lighthouse
The lighthouse stood on a cliff with sharp rocks below.
Suddenly the light faded and turned off.
The lighthouse keeper ran up stairs to the shiny bronzes cogs.
He grabbed his tool box and went to the top.
Then he looked in the glass the light was
gone! He lifted the Glass where the light was in but tripped on his tool box the glass broke
with a big SMASH!!!!
HE ran down stairs as a big boat was coming.
He opened the door to escape but the
village people came with lamps in thier hands.
they guided the boat away
with a smile on the man's face the story ends.

Lighthouse bean rock

The Bean Rock Lighthouse is in the Auckland harbour near Devonport. It was built in 1871 and was named after a navy captain P C D Bean who helped to chart the harbour in 1840.
The first light at bean rock was fuelled by kerosene. The keeper from 1909-1911 James Anderson lived in Devonport and rowed across before night and would light the light, his son would send him messages in mores code with a torch from his house. Bean rock is now the only wooden cottage light house in New Zealand. It was aotumated in 1912 and now runs on solar power.
